In the first nine months of the year, the trading total was $4.815 billion, or slightly more than 20 per cent of the total, according to new statistics.

This comprised mainly metal and metal products (45.1% of the total), minerals (20.2%), fuel energy products (17.7%), wood and paper products (14.3%), chemical products (10.7%), and mechanical products and means of communication (7.5%).

The figures are in line with 2011 when China accounted for $7.482 billion in trade with the Siberian Federal District, or some 19.7% of total trade.

Between January and September, the Netherlands was the second largest foreign trade partner with $2.876 billion.
