Jumbo future for Novosibirsk in new link to Thailand

The aircraft - the biggest in the Boeing family and known as the Jumbo or Queen of the Skies - has a 496 capacity. The 'double decker' plane is being flown by Transaero - Russia's second largest airline - from Novosibirsk to Bangkok.

Some 447 passengers were on the first flight the the sun.

'The appearance of this new type of aircraft in Novosibirsk Tolmachevo schedule will enable more residents of Novosibirsk region and the neighbouring Siberian regions to enjoy exotic holidays in Thailand,' said the airport. 

Viktor Pakhomenko, Head of the Transaero Representation in Novosibirsk, and Gregory Pomerantsev, Commercial Director of Novosibirsk International Airport Tolmachevo, along with large tour operators from the city held a ceremony to give the first passengers a warm send-off to Bangkok.

Tolmachevo is the largest air hub East of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity on domestic flights is 1,800 passengers per hour, and 750 passengers per hour on international flights.

The airport has two runways. According to business plan in 2012 the airport  plans to serve a 14 per cent increase in passenger numbers year on year.
