As well as the new elite apartment development - with up to 110 units - and new 120-room Courtyard By Marriott is planned along with a congress centre with a 1,650 capacity. The developments are part of a new new high-end 'multifunctional residential complex' named Zhukovka.

It is being built close to Zayeltsovsky Bor and has already been nicknamed Novosibirsk's Rublyovka, referring to one of Moscow's most elite suburbs favoured by the seriously rich.

Mr Boiko, owner of owner of TS Group Holding, said he expected the development to be completed in 2020 and that it 'will be passed to Marriott'. 'This year we are  planning to reclaim 15 hectares of land and turn it into a park,' he said.

Last year also saw the opening of Siberia's first Park Inn by Radisson in  Novosibirsk. The city also has a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

Are there unique Russian hotels? I would love to visit and stay in an original Russian hotel or Historic Inn. I realize that "International Brands" can seem alluring but I hope people in Russia will be able to believe that some of us "foreigners" really do want to visit and get to know Russia.
