It might well be the coldest ice bucket challenge ever carried out… at -40 degrees, and not that far from the North Pole. For one foreign visitor to Siberia, the chance to douse himself in water in the midst of our freezing winter proved too good an opportunity to miss.
Strongman Glenn Ross had been in Yakutsk taking part in a wrestling tournament when he decided to show his nerves of steel.
Standing outside his hotel in no more than a T-shirt and a pair of shorts, he poured three buckets of ice water over his head. The temperature was so extreme, small chunks of ice began forming in the buckets as he was talking.
'I avoided Ice Bucket Challenge, because I needed to do it in a right place, more extreme than any man can take! Minus forty degrees and 500 kilometres from the North Pole!' Pictures: Richard Looney
Beforehand, the 43-year-old had said: 'This is Glenn Ross and the Ice Bucket Challenge in Yakutsk, Russia, at - 40 degrees! I would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas!

'This is the ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge strongman style.'
Ross, from Bangor in Northern Ireland, is the creator of the UK’s Strongest Man competition. Known by his nickname ‘Big Daddy’ he is an international powerlifter who has represented his country in numerous World’s Strongest Man events.
He was in Siberia for the Mass-Wrestling World Championships and his ice bucket challenge was recorded outside the steps of the Tygyn Darkhan hotel in Yakutsk.

The fearless strongman then uploaded his efforts to social media sites.
On his own Facebook page he has described his time in the Yakutsk – officially the coldest city in the world – telling his friends how he ate traditional local foods including horse.
He also joked: 'It is -27 here and Santa is working his socks off.'
