Rookie FSB agents are punished for 'indecent' graduation jinx in Moscow

A brash parade of FSB Academy graduates in a cortege of black Mercedes Gelandewagens, horns blaring, met with horror from veteran spies but also the Russian authorities. The best agents stay in the shadows, but in their graduation celebration this basic rule was forgotten.

At the time the Kremlin declined to comment, instead making clear that the FSB Academy and the service itself should take action - and now they have.

Those responsible were given an ultimatum to leave the service, or face postings to the other side of Siberia, in Chukotka, or Kamchatka, it was reported.

'The main part of FSB Academy graduates who took part in the ride of Gelandewagen cars were sent to serve in Chukotka and Kamchatka detachments,' reported Life.ru tabloid.

'The graduates were offered either to agree and to go to these remote regions near the border, or to resign. Almost all chose the first option.'

A source told the news outlet: 'It was important for the FSB leadership to teach their graduates a lesson for such a provocative behaviour.'

Yet despite the 'indecent and demonstrative behaviour' and the 'anger' it caused, it was decided 'not to withdraw their chance to serve in the FSB'.

A way back to Moscow has been allowed for those graduates who service their time in the Russian Far East and 'demonstrate exceptional professional skills'.

A statement from the FSB made clear the incident flouted the code of ethics and acceptable behaviour.

'The leadership of the Academy are subject to disciplinary actions,' the statement continued. 'Some of the directors were reduced to lower positions, others were listed for resignation. During the internal investigation it was established that in order to dramatise the situation numerous fake video and other materials allegedly related to graduates to the Academy were used in the Internet.

'This information will be studied in detail.'

Retired Vladimir Rubanov, former head of the KGB analytics department, was quoted saying that such behaviour was a 'disgrace' and 'should not be forgiven'.

Other veterans spoke of 'treason' and 'betrayal'.

Images of the Mercedes parade were shown on the internet and the story was covered by the Russian and international media.

i agree with michael jon houston and Steve Kasti. Putin, at least built underground bunkers in case of nuclear war FOR THE PEOPLE to hide in. OUR govt is bulding them FOR THEMSELVES, not the american people. What does THAT tell you about OUR govt! and now...all we see is our own spiteful congress and senate trying to make life hell for our president. it makes me sick! at least putin is FOR his people. OUR govt wants to kill us all off, and make the ones left, into their freakin slaves! satan has really gained some ground here, let me tell ya! im really hating my govt right now.

I know I shouldn't be laughing but you need to promote the leader that organized this parade of Mercedes. Vladivostok wouldn't be such a bad place and if they could be part of catching the US CIA trying to spy on your naval base they would get to a warmer city in the future. Wait! Moscow is not warm in the winter.

I agree with Steve,(above comment)., actually, I think many Russians might be surprised at how many of us are "Vlad Fans"., Most of us, ...well, maybe half of us, admire your leader., I hope our new president and Mr. Putin get along well., though our government currently seems to be trying to antagonize him, the PEOPLE here generally like, and admire the Russian people, and hope that relations improve to the point where trust can be gained and maintained., right now, we have a few rogue elements in our government who make trusting our side ...difficult., (that was diplomatic, huh?)., the "New World Order" should be EVERYBODYS enemy #1., I just found this paper, I like it., I plan to be a regular reader., ...oh, almost forgot, I've got some possible campaign slogans ready in case your president ever decides to toss his hat in the ring over here., here they are..."You Darn Tootin' I'm Rootin' for Putin !", and "Vlad Ain't Bad!".,...(Vlad,..."call me",...I'm available in 2020.)

It saddens me that the FSB rightly punishes for this, while here in the USA our versions (CIA, FBI) can and do get away with murder, regime change, and crimes against humanity but here in the US they are called a hero. How difficult is it to migrate to Russia and away from war crime nation?
