Vladivostok 'to get tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world'

By Antonina Koshcheeva
17 August 2015

Towering 80 metre monument to 'Christ the Teacher' by Zurab Tsereteli to find home in Russia's Pacific capital.

In Vladivostok, the monument will be composed of two parts: the statue itself and the pedestal housing a cathedral in honour of Archangel Michael. Picture: Vladivostok diocese

The statue was cast in 2013 by Tsereteli, the famous Georgian-Russian sculptor, known for his gigantic projects such as a statue of Peter the Great in Moscow and 'The Tear of Grief' in the United States, dedicated to the struggle against world terrorism.

The monument stands 50 metres taller than the world famous 'Christ the Redeemer' in Rio de Janeiro, and two metres higher than 'The Christ the King' in Lisbon.

In Vladivostok, the monument will be composed of two parts: the statue itself and the pedestal housing a cathedral in honour of Archangel Michael.

The project was inspired by a local businessman Aleksey Shchepin, who donated two hectares of land overlooking the sea on the Churkin Peninsula for it to be built.

Now some $15.3 million is being raised to see the statue put in place.

Organisers say the monument, which has the backing of the Orthodox Church, will boost tourism and encourage residents of Vladivostok to believe in God.

It is also seen as a symbol of the revival of the Russian Far East.

From communism to a country that worships our Lord Jesus Christ properly more than any other country in the world. Yes it will be your savior. A shinning light for the rest of the world to see. God bless Russia.

Chrustianisn was used as a tool during the Cold War, but Masonery, the Great Logia which rules Washington DC and London, has its own bélefs so now Christian values are considered not necessary by the American elite which just thinks about América as a Corporation without identity....Meanwhile, in Russia the Government thinks the only way to survive as a nation is to welcome Christian values and first ofrece all the concept of family and faith.

Remember when the Soviet was the Evil Empire and we were the Shining City on the Hill? [Ronald Regan] It seems we're trading places.

Persecution are awakening within the true Russian people (not the ones who follow Western humanistic movements or atheistic materialists without a standard of morality ) a new faith one full of new strenght and new spirit. Suffering hearts are restoring their ancient, age-old religious contemplation. And Russia will not only not leave Orthodoxy, as her enemies in the West hope, but will strengthened in the sacred foundation of her historical being.
