Ready to move to Siberia?

25 November 2016

Photographer Svetlana Kazina shows off washing day in the Altai Mountains - and her loo roll with frostbite!

She shows how she freeze dries her clothes, a natural winter conditioner. Picture here and below: Svetlana Kazina

Svetlana often brings us amazing pictures of nature in the Altai Mountains, and these latest images show the reality of life in November in her small village.

In a month when temperatures in the region have touched minus 50C, and also exceptional snowfalls, she asks readers of her popular Facebook: 'Do you still want to move to Siberia?'

'I offer you a natural air freshener for toilets - 'frosty freshness'.

She shows how she freeze dries her clothes, a natural winter conditioner. After they are hard bitten with frost, she takes them inside and they rapidly dry, smelling snow fresh.

Then there is her outside lavatory with the the toilet roll covered in a glaze of wake-you-up ice.

'Did I have to spend that amount of time learning new skills? All I had to do was to just go to the loo and with a phone to take a picture of a toilet roll.'

'I offer you a natural air freshener for toilets - 'frosty freshness',' she said. 'I promise you rosy cheeks - and butt. And I also promise to you cheerfulness and freshness.'

The image of her loo roll became so popular with Russian netizens that Svetlana later added: 'Why did I bother, waking up 4 am and going up the mountains?

'Why did I spend hours looking for the right angle, exhausting equipment and myself, getting cold and wet... to find the right kind of shot of a landscape, or moment, or face?

That toilet paper looks like cloth...as for the stiff clothes how would I get my body's normal contortions into them.

Hi guys. It was a rhetorical question in the article. If you want to come to Siberia - make a visa at the embassy if necessary between the two our countries, buy a ticket and go.

Me too. Ready for the freezer! But with Mexican passport. Also, like more the direct contact with nature than cities. Please send advice to ja.suarez@shaiba.xyz . I will appreciate it a lot. :)

I am (test) ready to move to Sib. But how does it work? Having a EU-passport can I simply move and live in Sib? Any sources to retrieve prices for the daily living costs available? Work permit necessary and, if so, how to get it? Rural area preferred. Mail me: enrico.weltgeist@inboxclean.org
