Deeply shocking revelations have emerged of how remains from abortions from several Omsk hospitals were 'mistakenly' thrown onto a regular rubbish heap. A horrified local man called the authorities after he witnessed the disturbing sight of yellow-coloured 'bags for medical waste and disposal' on a municipal tip.

'I called the police, and I had to keep scaring birds and stray dogs away from the heaps with foetuses until police came, as they were eating them,' said Mikhail Malyugin.

Many of the medical bags were broken, with the content visible including rubber gloves, cotton balls, drip systems, test tubes, disposable syringes - and the remains from abortion procedures.

'The size of these heaps of waste, despite the signs that from time to time they were set on fire, indicated that it was brought up there on the regular basis and during a lengthy period of time.'

Reports of the incident and the whistleblower's revelations were covered by superomsk.ru news portal, other local news outlets, and federal news services.

It is claimed the bags were wrongly dumped by a company called 'Institute of Ecological Problems' which is charged with disposing of the medical 'waste'.

A spokesman for Omsk regional police said: 'By law it should have all been burned, and there is a special oven at the company to utilise such waste, and a special ditch for the ashes'. Pictures: superomsk.ru

Alexander Malko, managing director of the company, told ngs55 portal: 'It was a new driver, he had only worked for two weeks.

'A part of the factory where they utilise the waste was shut, and the driver decided to off load the waste, in order to complete the task, a bit further away. He offloaded it and went to a car wash.'

A spokesman for Omsk regional police said: 'By law it should have all been burned, and there is a special oven at the company to utilise such waste, and a special ditch for the ashes. It looks like the staff of the factory didn't have time to utilise it. As such there was no crime.'

Malko added: 'This young driver was only working with us for one week. He had not the technical process in detail, and accidentally offloaded the bags in the wrong place.'

He clarified that the bags contained 'medical waste after abortions'.

'Our company is considered to be a successful one in the city. We gained people's respect by working hard. And now we have got this kind of advertisement because of the young man's mistake.'

He said: 'You have got to understand that its incredibly hard to find a driver for such kind of job. Not everyone can stand it, because the waste smells.

'The blood sometimes drips out'.

If it is hard to get competent drivers for this kind of work, try paying them more to get the job done right!

Firstly, blood shouldnt be "dripping out" - any medical waste should be properly contained so this doesnt happen (infection control) along with the staff including the driver having personal protective equipment on, at the very least gloves and overalls.
Secondly, for instance, if medical waste is being dumped on ground like this and animals are then eating these "remains" and then defacating, the medical waste ends up in soil and on ground all over the place.
Thats not to mention the fact that foetus' are quite obviously being dumped - with no proper burial and/or respect or dignity. Literally dumped and discarded.
Even if the dump is set on fire, dangerous chemicals or ash could travel in the air to the surroundings and again settle on soil or in water sources.
Plus quite obviously there is no log of work either, when waste travels or is transported it should be logged that it has left a place, what kind of waste, how many bags, and the driver signs and dates with the agreed destination for the waste stated. On dropping of the waste at the destination this should be checked and verified but a member of staff at that site (that the bag colour and type of waste is correct) and a signature and number of bags logged.
Im shocked that in 2013 things like this still go on with complete ignorance for the reasons it shouldnt.
