Air China Boeing 777 makes emergency landing in Russia's easternmost town

The unexpected stopover in Anadyr was caused by a fire alarm in the baggage section.

The crew of Air China's Boeing requested emergency landing in Chukotka. 

Later checks confirmed the alarm was false, yet a back up plane was sent from Beijing amid concerns of faults on the original plane. 

The Anadyr airport’s team did it best to assist the passengers and the crew who evacuated the aircraft at strong 15m/s chilling wind and temperature of minus 6C.

Deputy Governor Leonid Nikolayev said: 'All 188 passengers were accommodated in the international flight zone and the airport VIP-hall. 

'They are provided with food and drink. There are doctors on the spot.'

No injuries were reported. 

Anadry is Russia's eastermost town with population of 15,500.
