The unscheduled move was announced by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on the orders of Vladimir Putin starting from 10am Moscow time on Thursday.

The drills applied to the Eastern Military District which covers four time zones and includes Buryatia, the Sakha Republic, Zabaykalsky Krai, Kamchatka Krai, Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, Amur Oblast, Magadan Oblast, Sakhalin Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

'In accordance with his (Putin's) instructions, air defence forces, as well as military units on the region's territory should be put on full combat alert,"' said the Defence Minister. 'Special attention must be devoted during the checks to a regrouping troops over longer distances as a priority task.

'The deployment of the system for control of materials, technical supply and medical support must be ensured'.

Putin ordered checks for readiness to support a war effort on ministries responsible for communications and transportation, as well as state agencies responsible for postal services, roads, railways, and sea and river fleets.

A shame that such sights of military hardware being paraded should give so much comfort to so many.
Yet everyone should realise the potency and mass destruction of these modern weapons, they are unforgiving on a mass scale.
A better scenario would be a parades of men marching with sticks as their only weapons ,simply because no other Country has anything better as weapon.
A dream I know ,but truly logically a much better outcome for thousands of Mother's sons & daughters.
I've lived a long time and have so far survived the gauntlet of a nuclear war, but in today's world it is a fear and threat that mankind now is made to live with daily' it's unfair !
An extra burden to carry to add to the heaviest burden of them all! ----------------To raise safely, a happy family .
