Chimpanzee twins Tikhon and Anfisa got so used to the daily flow of people in Krasnoyarsk Royev Ruchey Nature Park, that they showed signs of depression within days of the park going on quarantine on 25 March.

The sociable primates value entertainment and communication with the park’s visitors - limited as it is in the caged environment of the zoo - as high as food, if not higher, their carers said.

The team of the Royev Ruchei, which will stay locked inside the park with its animals for the duration of the quarantine decided to set up a mini movie theatre for the pair.

‘After seeing them getting sad we decided to put up a TV set on a wall, and started showing cartoons. Their favourite is a Russian cartoon about an exhausted mother monkey who lives in a zoo. They are ready to watch it non-stop’, said park’s director Andrey Gorban.

Another favourite is The Lion King.

Anfisa and Tikhon have their own manners how to watch. Male Tikhon lies on a sofa, snacking on raw vegetables.

Female Anfisa manages to do two things at once; from time to time she picks up a large children’s construction toy and unscrews the nuts.

When she is very bored, Anfisa picks up an empty lipstick tube and ‘does her lips’.

She was shown how to do this once by one of the staff and repeats it ever since.

The team of the Royev Ruchei park, which cares for nearly 5000 animals have shared pictures of dry noodles and other food they stocked to sit through the quarantine.

They said that all animals have enough provisions to last for several weeks.

Thank you for this uplifting, amusing and creative Chimp Clip...

Fantastic to see them being entertained, kept occupied and having a whale of a time in what could have otherwise been a boring, depressing and lonely quarantine period for them both.

Thanx a mil to Andrey Gorban and all the staff at the Royev Ruchei Park, for their "home office" entertainment and great work. Have fun and keep safe!
