Eight workers suffer burns as huge blaze erupts at oil facility in Khanty-Mansi

Some 'gravely' injured in accident at an oil well at Van-Yeganskoye deposit with inferno covering 800 square metres.

The blaze started at midnight Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District hurting eight people, said a spokesperson for Nizhnevartovsk Oil and Gas Producing Company.

Dramatic pictures showed flames rising high into the sky from the oil facility. 

'A fire outbreak of the oil and gas mix and of the drilling equipment occurred at a well of the Van-Yeganskoye deposit during operations of contractor Integra-Bureniye.

'Eight workers of the contractor suffered burns of varying degrees.'

Their condition is 'grave' and 'medium grave'.

Dramatic pictures showed flames rising high into the sky from the oil facility. 

A source in the emergencies ministry  said: 'I can't say that it has been extinguished.

'I know that we were called but when firefighters had left Raduzhny, they got a message about going back.

'Company decided to extinguish the fire themselves.A private firefighting company is working there.'

The deposit is located 75 kilometres northeast of Nizhnevartovsk, 35 kilometres southwest of Raduzhny, and 40 kilometres south of Varyegan. 

The regional prosecutor's office is running a check on the incident.
