Hero Siberian dog awarded medal for courage

Now enjoying a well-earned retirement in the Altai Mountains, the dog was deployed in the troubled North Caucasus region and gave 'exemplary and faithful performance of official duties', said the citation.

The dog was awarded a medal for courage, dedication and professionalism, said the Interior Ministry branch for the Republic of Altai.  

'In 2012, during a special operation in a town in the North Caucasus region the dog spotted an improvised explosive device planted by the roadside,' said the citation.

'Such example can be easily multiplied'.
