A man aged 29 with a history of sex attacks has been detained over the girl's tragic and horrific murder in a case that has deeply shocked the city of Tomsk. He confessed to the killing, according to reports citing police.
Viktoria - a trainee architect - was last seen at Lagerny Garden on the night of 29-30 July after going out with friends.
Her parents reported her missing on Sunday, and later that day her severed head was found beside a pond in the city's Botanic Garden some two kilometres from her last known location.

Law enforcement officials said on Tuesday that her remaining body parts had been discovered.
Viktoria was a student of Tomsk State University of Architecture and Construction.
Earlier, there were pleas on social media to help find the missing student.
She was described as having blond hair with green eyes.
When she went missing she was wearing jeans with holes in the knees, white Reebok trainers with blue and red stripes, a black T-shirt with the word 'Wild' printed on the front, and a grey cardigan.

She carried a black backpack which was discovered during the police search. Her Samsung cell phone was switched off.
Viktoria had been looking forward to a meeting with her school friends on 30 July but never turned up.
A statement from the regional branch of the Investigative Committee said Viktora 'went for a walk and did not come back.
'On Sunday her parents reported her missing and later on 31 July by the bank of a pond in the Botanic Garden a severed head was found'.
Botanic Garden is some two kilometres from her last known location.
Locals expressed horror today at Viktoria's brutal killing.
'This girl is almost a child - these beasts,' said one on social media.
Another said there were 'so many deaths in this Botanic Garden'.
Archeologists discovered a new stone bracelet, two sharp pins, a marble ring and fox tooth pendants.
