Andrey Sakharovsky, 42, is seen on CCTV footage walking towards the bear cage with a plastic bag in the Shelekhov district of Irkutsk region.

He had several cans of condensed milk which he intended to give to the beasts, named Masha, a five year old female, and males Misha and Sasha, aged four.

The video shows how the drunk man clambered over a fence to reach the bears used to entertain customers at the cafe.

His friend initially watches from a safe distance.

Suddenly in the distance there is a commotion as the friend tries to reach Sakharovsky, and cafe barbecue chef Gabil Guseinov, rushed to the scene alerted by the man's screams.

The chef used a spade to fight off the bears which had clawed his arm.

The bear - it's not clear which of the three - then bit off the arm, severing it close to the shoulder.

'It was very, very scary, I would not wish it on anyone,' said Guseinov.

The footage shows medics at the scene taking the wounded and bloodied man away on a stretcher. Police are investigating the incident.

The man's brother Evgeny Sakharovsky said: 'Of course, it is his fault. He jumped over [the fence] and went to feed them.'

He added: 'For drunk Russian men the fence needs to be higher. Both my brother and the cafe are guilty. And it will be good if the cafe offer compensation, because he is disabled now.'

The wounded man is receiving hospital treatment.

His family fear he will not be able to work again.

Police spokesman German Struglin said it was likely the bears would be destroyed after tasting human blood.

'They will be prevented from any contact with humans or the owner will take the decision to put them down,' he said.

Please do not blame the Bears for this. They are innocent they have been caged since they were babies. Find a credible sanctuary and rescue these bears from this torture and abuse you're putting them through at this Cafe. The owner can easily find a sanctuary and let the bears live in peace. It wasn't their fault this idiot got drunk and chose to climb the fence. Don't blame the Bears for human stupidity! Control code

The bears might not care whether a commenter is or is not from Thailand or what someone's friends do when visiting there. It is a sad fate to be treated this way (and potentially killed), and, I think, we should try what we can to save them from this.

Mehmet Hassan. You are from Thailand, and you make a comment about caged animals??? My friends travel to Thailand on vacation. They always return with videos of "animal shows" - animals in chains doing stupid stunts for people, in a small enclosure.

Its pretty depressing that three large wild animals are kept caged like this.
Is it legal in Siberia? Don't you have wildlife officials to monitor this?
Apart from the huge cruelty to the animals there is a danger to human beings as evidenced here.
These animals should be wondering free in Siberia's wilderness.
A very sad story.
