By The Siberian Times reporter
03 October 2012

Two giraffes have died suddenly at a Siberian zoo, prompting an investigation into the cause.

The giraffes died at Krasnoyarsk's Royev Ruchei - one of the largest in Russia - zoo within a week.

The pair were among six brought from South Africa to Krasnoyarsk five years ago.

'Two giraffes have died in a week. We've set up a commission today to study the causes of this tragedy. Park specialists and experts from Krasnoyarsk's veterinary service will investigate this, to find out what caused their death,'  zoo official Marina Shilikova told RIA Novosti.

So far no hint has been given as to the cause of the deaths.
