Attack on Editor in Novosibirsk

The 32 year old editor-in-chief was hit several times in the face, and a colleague was also attacked in the assault on Monday.

The attackers, who posed as couriers, fled the scene immediately. Earlier in the day the website was struck by a DDos-attack. The portal is known for its independent position in covering political, social and economic stories in the Siberian Federal district. 

Mezdrikov was taking to Number 1 Clinical Hospital of Novosibirsk for first aid and medical examination. 

A former TV journalist and presenter, he has been head of since 2011, and is considered one of Novosibirsk's leading political journalists.

The motive behind the attack on Mozdrikov, and on his website, was unclear.
