The Tomsk burglars looked the part in balaclavas and gloves, and at first everything went according to their bizarre plan as they lassoed a cable around a Sberbank ATM, and attached the other end to their GAZelle truck.
Their aim was to rev up the vehicle and drag the cash machine out of the supermarket and down the street, as they made away with their money haul.
But the ATM refused to budge. Things got worse.

The desperate criminals got out their sledgehammers to open up the ATM, but failed to access a single rouble.
Defeated, they fled in an unknown direction leaving their burning truck.
'After failing to open up the ATM, the unknown criminals abandoned the crime site,' confirmed a police source.
They are now being hunted.

Mikhail Grebennikov, head of Sberbank in Tomsk, said: 'The alarm didn't go off when [they] broke a window of the store and tried to drag out the ATM.
'But they didn't consider that everything was deadly secured.'
Archeologists discovered a new stone bracelet, two sharp pins, a marble ring and fox tooth pendants.

The same thing happened in Las Vegas a few years ago. A construction company owners son took a big loader, he hooked up and drove away with an ATM. He had used a water saw to break into the machine. He later dragged it down the road to the desert and dumped it, all while leaving a water trail, and a scratch mark on the road. (Another Genius) He made it easy for the police to find him.
