These images and video show one of the most dramatic days in Omsk's weather history.

At one point, thermometers recorded 36C in the shade, the hottest ever in the west Siberian city, more famed for its icy winter weather.

Locals headed for beaches on the Irtysh River to get some relief.

But abruptly everything changed.

Soon there were ominous black clouds, dust storms and thunder and lightning.

Dramatic and bizarre cloud formations are appearing everywhere...the sky is often a sign of things to come and already weather patterns worldwide are surreal. This year's el nino is predicted as fierce so perhaps we should take advice from our ancient ancestors and start looking to the sky for advice!!

That weather looks like nothing unusual at all . . . not if you live in N. Texas, Oklahoma, or the other parts of 'Tornado Alley' in the U.S. A local saying goes, "When the sky turns green and black, head for cover." The equivalent saying in Omsk may go, "Давайте пить Балтика!"

Well it is, & would you wonder 'Why'?
