When the bus left the terminal at 'Yemelyanovo' Airport in Krasnoyarsk, everything was dry.

A sudden deluge left the tarmac like a lake, with passengers wading through ankle-deep water to get to their Nord Star flight to Norilsk.

It is the latest example of extremes of weather to hit Siberia in recent days - scorching heat for some, snow for others, and fearsome storms too.

'When the passengers were brought to the aircraft, the bus parked as close as possible - to the extent allowed by the security,' explained an airport spokesman. 'For a while the passengers waited in the bus hoping the rain stopped.

'There was no sense to park the bus or the plane in another other place, because the whole area was filled with water.

'It also did not make sense to bring the special equipment to pump out water, because this is only possible after the rain ends.
