The officer from Khakassia was escorting nine buses with over 300 children when a lunatic driver suddenly drove at high speed towards the convoy on the wrong side of the road.

With a split second to think, the heroic Kosolapov manoeuvred his Ford Focus patrol car into harms way, preventing a full-scale collision with the lead bus, but leaving him with devastating injuries, and his car a write-off.

'The officer quickly assessed the situation and risking his own life, he managed to prevent a head-on collision,' said a police source.
