Parts of Vladivostok were plunged into darkness as the electricity was cut off. And the morning after the strike, many people were still without TV and internet.
Locals had been marking Tiger Day, a festival dedicated to the endangered Siberian tiger, a symbol of the region. Thousands were forced to take shelter as the storm engulfed the city.
