His teachers and medics are puzzled how the accident happened. But surgeon Elena Nekrasova said: 'The metal handle was 10x2 centimetres. We needed to save the boy.

The boy was taken to Regional Children's Hospital Number 1 where x-rays found the alien object.
A teacher said: 'We do not understand how the handle could break like this. The most amazing thing is that Slava did not lose consciousness. With a handle in his chest he came to the school medical room. Unfortunately, there were no doctors at the time. A teacher saw the blood and called an ambulance.'

Slava is now recovering. He said he played with a friend who slammed shut the classroom door causing Slava - full name Vyacheslav - to run into the handle, which broke off and wedged into his chest.
