Woman plays with fire at filling station - but why?

Dashcam film does not reveal what happened next...after she lit her cigarette lighter close to her Ford's fuel tank causing the petrol to ignite.

She pulled the flaming nozzle out of the tank, seeking to blow at the flames to put them out. Picture: Maxim G.

The pictures show the horrific scene at a filling station in Surgut after a woman sparked her lighter while filling her tank at a self-service gas station. She pulled the flaming nozzle out of the tank, seeking to blow at the flames to put them out. But the burning tank only ignited more.

The driver with the dashcam then made a speedy exit, possibly fearing the woman's car would explode. But why did she do it?

The most likely theory is she had prepaid for so many litres of fuel and feared she had over ordered. She was using the flame to see if the tank was full, not realising the dire consequences.

'From the video it is clear that she wanted to fill a full tank and was afraid that she ordered more than she needed and decided to look at it,' said viewer Sergey. 'Since it was dark,  she lit up the fuel tank with the lighter. '

Local news outlet K-Inform reported that fire damaged the paint on her car and the nozzle of the pump. This suggests that the fire was rapidly extinguished, possibly by gas station staff. There were no reports that the woman was hurt.
