The unnamed man came round in the Intensive Care ward after surgery and demanded a beer from nurses. Naturally, they refused.

So wrapped only in a sheet the man got out of bed, unplugged his tubes, marched out of the hospital, eluding security, and found the nearest liquor store, called Starik Khottabych, at Sayanogorsk in the Republic of Khakassia.

Shocked staff called the police rather than sell him beer. He was rapidly returned to hospital.

Reports do not record the chief nurse's words to him when he was returned to Intensive Care.

But the hospital is reviewing its security which was supposed to be on high alert because of a flu epidemic in the region.

Long live this brave man! If I am ever confined to such a hospital, may I also have the balls to go after what we need to make life worth living: Beer! Hail Sayanogorsk,God Dammit! To Hell with anybody who says anything against you, brave sons of heroes!

I mean this totally with humour and affection but are you sure he is not Canadian?...:-). I have lived half my life in Canada, half in the United States and worked with many wonderful colleagues from all across Europe so I do understand the deep appreciation people feel towards their "favourite brew". Being a life-long health and wellness advocate, I feel compelled to try to suggest Kambucha...:-). I hope he has a full recovery from his surgery certainly.

LOL........hahahahaha......More evidence of how tough, hardy, and resourceful Siberians are! For initiative alone, this man deserves a beer for the rest of his life. I sure hope he recovers fully from his surgery and thirst!
