Police act after 'debt collectors beat up family and sexually assault mother'

Four unidentified men claimed woman owned 240,000 roubles after borrowing 5,000 roubles last year.

Police are now hunting the intruders who broke into a house in Iskitim, near Novosibirsk allegedly enforcing a loan taken out by a woman last year. Natalia Gorbunova could not afford to exorbitant interest rates which turned a debt of $72 into an expected repayment of $3,480.

A spokesman for the General Prosecutor's Office said the men 'beat up' the husband Alexey and 17 year old son of the owner of the flat, after that they committed sexual assault.' 

The intruders will face charges of robbery, armed assault and attempted rape, say sources.

If the facts of the matter, as stated in the article, support a case of "loan sharking". This is terrible, and trust that the perpetrators of this despicable crime are brought to book for their offences. Here in the UK, we also hear of similar cases, where an initial small loan, soon inflates into an almost unpayable amount. These people are the scum of the Earth, preying often on the poor, weak and less fortunate.
