Two women died on the spot in the appalling smash, and the other two female passengers died after being rushed to hospital. The 62 year old former regional traffic police chief's Land Cruiser overtook a Range Rover and rammed into a Toyota Premio which was turning into Kosmos tourist camp in Kemerovo region.

A video showed the moment of impact which killed four passengers in the Toyota but left both drivers relatively unscathed.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Movshin, although unhurt, did not seek to help the women in the Toyota but instead 'was talking to his lawyer on his cell phone' in the immediately aftermath of the horror.

The dead were: Galina Gavrilova, 43,  Darya Bashurova, 31, and mother of three Svetlana Permyakova, 33, all from Krasnoyarsk, and  Natalia Loseva, 35, from Kemerovo. At least five have been left without mothers from the accident.

Mrs Loseva's husband Denis heard the crash - and rushed to the scene as he was cooking a meal at the tourist camp. 'I was at the camp, cooking,' he said. We heard the crash, I just ran. After 10 or 15 seconds, I was already at the scene.

'The blow was terrible, we did not hear any squeaking of the brakes. My wife Natalia and Svetlana were thrown out the car. They were in three metres from the car.

'The car itself overturned. Galina wheezed, she was hung by her safety belt. Daria was on the back seat also barely breathing.'

Police sources revealed that the Toyota driver was disqualified from driving at the time of the crash. The unnamed driver insisted, however, that he had complied with road safety rules.

He had looked in the side mirror, switched on the turn signal, and his speed was from 5 to 8 kph, he said. Overtaking was prohibited on that part of the highway, he said.

Police also denied suggestions that Movshin was over the alcohol limit. A key aspect of the crash investigation is likely to be the speed of Movshin's car.  Unconfirmed reports suggested he was driving at 130 kph on a stretch of road where drivers were warned to slow from a maximum speed of 80 kph.

Movshin, who has retired from the traffic police and now works for a private company, was previously involved in a fatal car crash. In 2011, he collided with Lada and the driver died on the spot.

The former road traffic police chief for Kemerovo region was recognised not guilty in this earlier incident.

What a sad tragedy, so many young Mums fatally injured by the most perfect murder weapon man has invented ."THE CAR"

Yes it is an indisputable fact that a vehicle at any speed becomes a weapon that can kill, Too many drivers do not realise this basic fact ,whether you're a Siberian or a Muscovite this should be made CLEAR before you are allowed to drive. Most deeply sorry for all concerned.

Police or no police history, if this individual is guilty of negligence and reckless endangerment resulting in death (in more than one case), this individual has to be prosecuted.
