Roads washed away as Russian Far East hit by torrential rain

Coldest village in the world hit by severe flooding, with one month's rainfall in a few days.

These pictures show the toll from heavy rainfall from two storms in one week. 

Winds gusted up to 25 metres per second, uprooting trees, bringing down billboards and close Magadan sea port.

Badly hit was Oymyakon district, in Yakutia, around 1,000 kilometres north-east of Magadan.

A state of emergency was declared in Oymyakon - the world's coldest village - along with Khara-Tumul and Bereg-Yurdya.

There were further forecasts of heavy rain.
