Vasily Bech, 37, escaped from Penal Colony No 3 in Tomsk after being deployed to work in the institution's vegetable store.
He evaded armed guards, and a search parties, and walked 200 km on forest tracks in an attempt to see his daughter Anna in Molchanovo village.
He was serving a six year sentence beginning in 2014 for attempted murder, robbery and drugs offences.

Bech was detained in the village where his daughter lives.
Anna's mother Nadezhda Uimanova, 30, now lives with another man.
But reports say he is now likely to face an additional four years after absconding.
And he will be forced to pay for the costs of the searches to find him if a legal action by the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service is successful.
