Male patient unhappy with impotency treatment shoots female doctor dead in Norilsk

By The Siberian Times reporter

Mother-of-one Olga Avtaeva, 35, died on the spot; 'manic' patient detained and told police she had not given him enough 'attention’.

'He aimed only at Olga, and shot five times. We tried to help her, and called an ambulance. They came very quickly, but could not help. She died on the spot.' Picture: Social media

Colleagues paid tribute to Dr Ataeva who was gunned down by a 28 year old man soon after he had an appointment seeking a cure for his impotency problem.

The patient went home and returned with a traumatic gun, supposedly non-lethal. He shot the doctor from close range, killing her on her son's fourth birthday.

The man - not named by police - had 'crazy fire in his eyes' as he went to the doctor's room in a Norilsk hospital.

'He went along the corridor with the gun in his hand,' said another doctor named Elena. 'He shot only her, at close range. He did it in cold blood. There was crazy fire was in his eyes, something manic.

'He aimed only at Olga, and shot five times. We tried to help her, and called an ambulance. They came very quickly, but could not help. She died on the spot.'

The shooting was in the skin and venereal diseases department of the hospital. The man fled the hospital but was detained at a friend's home some two hours later.

According to state investigators he said he killed the doctor 'because he was not pleased with the treatment and demanded more attention to him'. Another doctor, Natalya, said: 'This patient had problems in his sexual relations.

'That is why he was lonely, had many problems. But we could not really help him. We gave him recommendations, and advised him to go to a urologist. Obviously he had some problems with the urologists, because he came back to us.

'I wish you could see how patiently Olga had been working with him. It is so unfair that she was murdered by him.'

She said: 'Olga was the most diplomatic doctor. Her colleagues even asked her to help them, if there was some kind of a difficult situation with a patient. She had the ability to assure anyone, and calmly explain everything.

'You understand what patients we usually have. Many are drug addicts, alcoholics, and former convicts. They can have chronic diseases, which were not treated properly for many years. There are many aggressive people.'

She said: 'This day was Olga's son birthday. He was four. She had been trying to get pregnant for a long time and finally her son was born. The labour was hard, she was in intensive care.

'Her husband Alexander loved her so much. It is so cruel that this has happened to this family.'
