Alexander Schevelyov, 29, and Yulia Afanasyeva, 27, lived together for almost three years in Novosibirsk, but there was no purr-fect parting.

Yulia took both cats and now Alexander is demanding Frik, the male. They cannot agree so the fur-ious argument must now be settled in court.

'We parted this summer,' said Alexander. 'I tried to persuade Yulia to give me away Frik.

'Initially she agreed, and gave me the cat.'

But then she used her spare keys to take the cat back, he claimed. Yulia has declined to comment.

The court hearing will be in January, and hopefully it can be settled without too much mew-sery.

Cat's all.
