A snowstorm that started two days ago blocked 44 cars and five buses on the road from Pospelikha to Kurya, with more than 170 people trapped inside. Three intercity buses got stuck in another area, capturing 121 passengers and drivers.

It was their relatives that raised alarm after the buses and cars were late to arrive at their destination, and as phone connections broke.
A state of emergency was called in the region, with rescuers from both Altai and Novosibirsk regions rushing to free people.
'It took the rescuers several hours of a fight through snow drifts to reach people. Everyone got safely evacuated to nearby villages, where temporary shelters and hot food points were organized,' a spokesman for the local Ministry of Emergencies said. 'All vehicles were rescued, too.

'Several roads are still blocked, but we have four mobile rescuing squads that watch over the most dangerous areas and help those who get stuck in the snow. More than 1600 rescuers, 640 cars and other units of equipment are currently involved in the operation.'
