Russia calls for anti-terrorism action at East Asia Summit (EAS) in Manila

The EAS brings together ten members of ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) and Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the US.

Medvedev is looking for support for a Russian initiative to fight terrorism - and the ideologies behind terrorism. 

This is part of a wider agenda to promote stable and sustainable development of the Asian-Pacific region, says Moscow.

Russia considers EAS a key platform for establishing  a transparent, open and comprehensive system based on respect for adherence to international law, mutual trust, and peaceful settlement of disputes without resorting to the threat or use of force in the Asia-Pacific region.

Russia also ‘highly values prospects in deepening cooperation with regional countries for socio-economic development of Siberia and the country’s Far East, say reports.

The East Asia Summit has been held annually since 2005 as a high-level discussion of leaders of nations in the Asia-Pacific region on a wide range of regional and global issues.
