The two brothers from Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the Russian Far East were found at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow on 26 January.

The boys had their rucksacks with birth certificates, school diaries and a message from their father.

They explained they flew 6.150km to Moscow with their father from Khabarovsk.

A note from the boys’ father read: ’I am asking to help my children. Please get them a place at a temporary shelter as currently I am in extremely complicated financial situation.

'I will pick them up later. Please do not separate the children.

'Their documents are inside a bag pack. Forgive me, but right now I don’t have a choice.’

The boys were fed and taken to Moscow Khimki hospital.

Later they will be flown to Khabarovsk, said regional children rights commissioner Valeria Tregubenko.

‘We are in constant touch with Moscow colleagues. We are currently sorting the issue of getting the children to Khabarovsk’, she said.

Tregubenko explained that the regional social care is looking for the children's mother and other relatives.

Russian REN TV channel said that the boys’ mother Olga left the family in 2016. She was said to have vanished after taking both boys to their kindergarten; her current whereabout are unknown.

The father is known to have applied for a variety of jobs, saying that the was ready to do anything to provide for the boys.

It is not clear why he had flown to Moscow or why he chose to leave the boys at the airport.

Russian children ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova is involved in investigating the circumstances of the incident.

UPDATE

Mother of the boys left at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport said she wasn’t aware of what happened.

The boys’ parents got divorced some years ago, with the mother ‘not staying in touch with her ex husband and sons’, explained regional children rights commissioner Valeria Tregubenko

'Social care workers are talking to her now. It is still possible that the children will be returned to the mother. None of the boys’ relatives expressed a wish to take care of them', Tregubenko said.

Police is searching for the father.

I will pray for the children and their Dad.
What Kind of mother abandons her children ?
At least the dad took them to a safe place for help.
