'Siberia is indeed a land of superlatives: bigger than Europe and the US combined, with the biggest gas reserves in the world'

Now two NEW large holes appear in Siberia

By The Siberian Times reporter
28 July 2014

Reindeer herders find more craters in the far north in a deepening puzzle for scientists.

The funnel is a perfectly formed cone, say locals who are mystified at how it was formed. Its depth is estimated at between 60 and 100 metres and its diameter - more than four metres. Picture: Local residents

Millions of people around the world glimpsed the first giant hole after it was revealed by The Siberian Times here and on The Siberian Times TV here.

Now news has emerged of two new similar formations in the permafrost, prompting more intrigue about their creation.

Theories range from meteorites, stray missiles, a man-made prank, and aliens, to an explosive cocktail of methane or shale gas suddenly exploding. The version about melting permafrost due to climate change, causing a release of methane gas, which then forces an eruption is the current favorite, though scientists are reluctant to offer a firm conclusion without more study.

The second is in the Yamal Peninsula - known to locals as 'the end of the world' - like the first. It is some hundreds kilometres from the first, which is close to a huge gas extraction plant at Bovanenkovo. This new crater in the Taz district, near the village of Antipayuta, has a diameter of about 15 metres.

A deputy of the regional parliament - or duma - Mikhail Lapsui has examined this latest phenomenon.

'I flew by helicopter to inspect this funnel on Saturday 19 July,' he said. 'Its diameter is about 15 meters. 'There is also ground outside, as if it was thrown as a result of an underground explosion.

'According to local residents, the hole formed on 27 September 2013. Observers give several versions. According to the first, initially at the place was smoking, and then there was a bright flash. In the second version, a celestial body fell there.'

The Chief Scientist of the Earth Cryosphere Institute, Marina Leibman, told URA.RU website: 'I have heard about the second funnel on Yamal, in Taz district, and saw the pictures.

'Undoubtedly, we need to study all such formations. It is necessary to be able to predict their occurrence. Each new funnel provides additional information for scientists.'

The third crater and hole is in the Taymyr Peninsula, to the east of Yamal, in Kransoyark region. It was accidentally discovered by local herders, inhabitants of the northern village of Nosok.

The funnel is a perfectly formed cone, say locals who are mystified at how it was formed. Its depth is estimated at between 60 and 100 metres and its diameter - more than four metres.

The herders almost fell into the hole which lies on a pasturing route. They took pictures of the hole which were sent to scientists at the Norilsk Taimyr Explorers' Club.

Experts - geologists, ecologists, and historians - have not come to a consensus about the origin of the funnel, say reports in the region.

'It is not like this is the work of men, but also doesn't look like natural formation,' said one account.

Further study is planned of this hole.

The first hole is around 70 metres deep with an icy lake at its bottom.

I disagree with all the explanations. It would appear to me to be nothing more than an ancient lava tube that was carved (scourged) out of the surrounding basalt rock thousands, maybe even millions of years ago and was covered over after being filled in by the surrounding soil over eons of time. This area has a history of volcanism and the smooth inter surface of the tube clearly points to a lava tube. Having an active lava bed below would produce a buildup of methane gas that over time would build up to such pressures that sudden intermittent bursts of methane would occur and release to the surface and blow out the ground above via the line of least resistance, that being the ancient lava tube. Note the blow out crater has the white debris of ancient ash covering the black basalt gravel underneath surrounding the basalt bedrock below. No need to send out the specialist as this problem has been solved by pure genius (YUK YUK). All the other explanations range that I’ve seen, range from laughable to downright stupid, like the left-winged mind numbed global warming explanation. Really...where did you get your science degree, Podunk University?

It´s normal activity when natural gas are pumped out, there is a pressure between of the soil layers. Due to pumping this balance of soil pressure changes and it will causes this kind of holes....Sorry folks - there is really nothing supernatural !!!

when say, 25 signs or events are foretold to happen before one great climactic crescendo is to happen and only 5 or 6 of the foretold signs have come to pass then it is stupid to scream the sky is falling, BUT when all or just about all of the preceding events have actually come to pass then its NOT silly nor ridiculous to say that that final ever awaited 2nd coming of our Lord Christ Jesus is close. Now, if you dont want to believe it then fine, we all answer for our own actions. I will sayhowever that when I see comments like this I grin because I know your eternal future and it may be wrong but it does make me feel like you'll get yours. I suppose since were not perfect theres still that "I hope you get your" feeling left in me. I do feel sorry for you though. The scriptures do say a lot about those that have ears to hear and eyes to see. You'll get along fine with shmuck in the red speedos.

High-powered lasers were around years ago.. the govt does it in places like siberia bcuz if they did it at Area 51 or some other old-school testing ground they'd be exposed.

If these holes signify the world is ending so be it. Man is such a horrible invention of God then even God can make mistakes. Let the misery end!!!!!

The fact that there are three holes in close proximity makes you wonder if there is something going on under the surface that might be explosive. Are these the only ones, or will there suddenly be one much larger or a whole series of these things. With all our modern day technology, you would think they would have a reasonable explanation. Doesn't appear to be a tourist attraction. :)

Giant Ants made them. I can prove it I saw the same thing in a 1955 movie called THEM so if it's in he movies it must be true.

Since the environmentalists have been proven to be liars by their own e mails they must be running on the faith system just like the Christians. Anyhow very nice holes! P.S. I have stood on pingos in the Arctic and really doubt the pingo theory.

Looks like a dried up geyser. Let's be realistic here, there's a pattern in the formation that looks like layers that happened over a period of time.

There are signs everywhere that the last days has been starting, as the Bible says, READ it!!!!! Specially the last books of the Bible, there is everything. I was in David Keoneg meeting at the Olympic Station in Finland just couple of days ago and there were at least 2 big News Papers, that wrote about what happened on the stage to me, when David was praying for me and there was one priest behind me. Jesus Christ appeared, His face was in my hair. This is absolutely the truth, all the people in the big News Papers in Finland couldn't believe their eyes, when they zoomed the pics bigger, and Jesus face, His face was in my hair. The Holy Spirit really was there. There is only ONE truth and that is our saver Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us. Please, all the people, believe in HIM and accept him as your personal saviour. Before it's too late. Don't go to hell when you die!!! Johanna from Finland

@Hakan Persson, Sweden ... Yeah.. great comment. Try again. I think China and some other countries are ahead of us in pollution factor. although the US is part of it .. I wont argue that we don't need to do some work to improve. Brow beat China first and foremost.

The craters look like they were carved by a high speed gas jet such as occurs in diamond pipe formation. The sides are worn smooth by the ultra high speed gas jet.
