The new 175-room Novosibirsk Marriott Hotel is the first international chain five star hotel between the Urals and Pacific in Russia. Its arrival signals a key moment in a hotel revolution which is specially strong along the route of the Trans-Siberian railway.

The 5-star luxury hotel, aimed at business travellers but also ideal for tourists, is located on Lenin Square, named after the founder of the Soviet Union, and Ordzhonikidze Street, named after a close associate of Stalin.  The new-style Siberian luxury might have these Communist luminaries turning in their graves but for those seeing comfort and style in modern Novosibirsk will be happy.

'The 175 spacious and thoughtfully designed guestrooms feature modern amenities such as large flat screen televisions and high speed internet,' said hotel spokeswoman Nataliya Brus.

'Executive guestrooms have complimentary access to the 24/7 executive lounge which serves breakfast, drinks and snacks throughout the day, and cocktails and canapes in the evening. The extensive leisure facilities include a large indoor pool, fitness centre and Turkish Hammam.'

Guests can choose between a variety of bars and restaurants within the hotel, including Ouverture, described as an elegant cafe and bar serving Russian classics alongside Mediterranean, Lebanese and Asian dishes, and the Lobby Bar overlooking the city's iconic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

This serves light meals and drinks but there is also a rooftop bar with outstanding views over the city, described as 'the perfect place for evening cocktails'.

The new Marriott boasts the largest hotel-based conference facilities in Novosibirsk, which is Siberia's largest city, and the third biggest, after Moscow and St Petersburg, in Russia. 'A suite of elegant meeting spaces across 480 square metres with natural light and modern integrated equipment can accommodate over 450 attendees,' said Ms Brus.

At the top end, the hotel has a 151 square metre presidential suite, with a living and sitting area, dining area and study.

Rates at the hotel begin at €120 a night.

The hotel follows a five star rating for the Mergen Bator in Ulan-Ude, capital of the Republic of Buryatia.

The Novosibirsk opening comes after delays in a number of projects in the east of Russia. Another Marriott 5-star is due to open in Krasnoyarsk but sources say it has been delayed. The same fate has befallen two Hyatt brand hotels scheduled for Vladivostok, which were both originally due to be functioning in time for the APEC summit in September 2012.

Marriott Hotels has over 500 hotels and resorts in nearly 50 countries and territories worldwide.
