The largest bikini snow show was at Sheregesh, which already holds the world record of 1,835 downhill skiers and boarders wearing swimwear. The Kemerevo region resort probably had more participants this year - an estimated 2,000 - but this was not an official record attempt.

An end to the ski reason was also marked the same way at Sobolinaya Gora resort in in Irktusk region, close to Lake Baikal. Here hundreds took part but on the Pacific Island of Sakhalin there was a variation on the theme.

Here skiers came downhill banya-style, wearing towels or white sheets as if just out of the sauna. Many carried bundles of birch-twigs, traditionally used by Russians to thwack the skin, so improving circulation.

Experienced skier Sergey Klimov, 54, said: 'I and my friends began to try such downhill runs about 15 years ago. We even skied naked some years.'

As a resident of Florida, living in 80 F degree temperatures at Christmas I can only envy you and the fun you are having. I love seeing all the photos of people enjoying the snow.

Why is this the "end" of the snow season? Surely even in Siberia November is the beginning of Winter.

When I read your interesting articles and look at all the photos of your people and countryside, I can't tell if I'm looking at Canada, or maybe the northern US or a part of Europe because all the people seem to be enjoying themselves with the same things they enjoy themselves about here. So then why, when a few "elites" who don't know how to enjoy life, do we put on our uniforms and get our weapons ready to kill each other and destroy each other's countrysides when they give us the orders to do this. Why involve us and wreck our lives in the process? So the next time our "leaders" declare war let's just tell them, "Sorry, not today. And maybe not tomorrow either. We're planning on all meeting somewhere in Switzerland or Siberia or the Canadian Rockies to do some skiing and partying."
Who is with me? I love you guys. You are my comrades and friends on this planet Earth and I sure don't want to hurt you. Ever.
Peace, Erik.

I remember doing that when I was quite a bit younger, up at Loveland Ski Area or Arapahoe Basin here in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Your piece brings back fond old memories. Perhaps next year some of you can have fun at the end of your ski season there, and then come to Colorado, as the end of ski season at Arapahoe Basin is generally toward the end of May or in early June, when the younger locals will be acting and dressing just like the young people of Siberia pictured here.

It looks like fun, but what is the temperature on this first day of swimsuit skiing at Sheregesh; 4° or 5° C or colder or is it up around 8° to 10° C?? We live in the old California Mother Lode, the old California Gold Country, about 140 km SSW (crow flying - straight line, about 3 hours by car) from Carson City, Nevada. We get about 10 to 20 cm of snow every three or four years. At 1 600 m and straight east of us, there is a ski resort that gets about 200 cm or so of snow each year.
