The majestic animal was seen early in the morning on 2 January by two men returning home from overnight fishing in Dalnorechensky district of Primorye.

They stopped their car as soon as they saw the endangered tiger, said geologist Dmitry Androsov.

At first it just stood on the road looking at the car, but as soon as they drove away to give the giant cat more space it started slowly walking towards them.

The healthy-looking animal didn’t seem to be scared of the sound of the engine or headlights as it moved ‘with dignity and confidence’, Androsov said.

The two men are heard chatting quietly as they watch the tiger - the largest big cat in the world - approaching.

‘He is so huge…! What a beauty’ - one of them said.

‘He is not hungry, is he?’, the other man answered some moments later.

The Amur tiger looked like it intended to get really close to the car, so the anglers sounded the horn to make him stop.

The sound made the tiger pause before walking back into the woods.

The tiger acted like he was master of the woods, Androsov said, stressing that there was no sign of aggression from the animal.

There are less than 600 Siberian - or Amur - tigers living in the wild in their native habitat in eastern Russia.

The species was hunted close to extinction by poachers but is now making a comeback.

I think more of Siberian times and the Russian character than all of the "politically correct". who work so hard here in the States to speak rot. Siberian times has excellent journalism.

What a once in a life time priviledge to get so close to such an exquisite magestic creature in its natural habitat.

I would have loved to have been those fishermen, However I prefer swimming with the big fish rather than catching them!!!

Thank you for the beautiful and truly unique captions Dmitry Androsov and being a great geologist in not only helpng save these majestic creatures from extinction but in your wise words" The tiger acted as if he were master of the woods, stressing that there was no sign of aggression from the animal".

They are the masters of the woods and so often it is certain two legged animals who behave agressively and violently...

NEVER give away the location of these beautiful animals. Plenty of gun crazy and money greedy poachers around.
