The triple boxing champion and Siberian member of the Russian team boxing competition died in the courtyard of his apartment block. A hunt for the killer has been launched by the Investigative Committee, the Russian equivalent of the FBI.

The 24 year old was stabbed twice, in the abdomen and the neck, close to his flat at 25 Dianova street at Kirov district of Omsk, said Omskinform news agency.

In what appears a premeditated murder, the tyres on his car was slashed.

'Ivan noticed the punctured tyre and dialled his brother, asking him to bring the tools down,' said a source in the Investigative Committee.

'He was attacked seconds after he finished the call. It happened in the middle of the day. Ivan shouted for help, but died before the ambulance arrived.'

Police launched a murder probe and are hunting the 'stranger' who attacked him .

Klimov was a three times Siberian boxing champion and winner of the Golden Glove international boxing competition.
